Blogging Tips That Will Take You To The Next Level

David Oliveira · 13/04/2021 · Leave a Comment

These blogging tips will help you become a better blogger and make far fewer mistakes than me on your blogging journey.

blogging tips

Whether you a new blogger or a professional blogger, I’m sure that sometimes you regret some of the mistakes you’ve made during your blogging journey.

I’ve decided to create a list of mistakes that bloggers do to help you make better decisions in the future.

Stick To WordPress

There are many blogging platforms, but none as good as WordPress.

Go for WordPress.org not WordPress.com.

Why?

Because with WordPress.org, you’ll actually own and host your domain. You’ll have a lot more freedom and flexibility to do whatever you want with your blog, including monetisation and use third-party plugins.

I’ve seen people using other blogging platforms, such as Squarespace and Blogger, but they have far fewer functionalities when it comes to customising your blog.

Get Your Own Domain

Do it right from the beginning. It’s a game changer.

Do you see my domain?

davidoliveira.co.uk

A lot better than davidoliveira.blogspot.com, right?
Or davidoliveira.wordpress.com?

Owing your domain is more professional and increases your chances of ranking on search engines.

Start Building

I recommend SiteGround 100%.

Their services are affordable and reliable. Subscribe to one of the hosting plans to build your WordPress blog and have your own domain name.

Got any questions, contact me. I’ve been using them for many years.

Focus on Writing Good Quality Content

Who wants to read poor and irrelevant blog posts? Certainly not me.

Only Write About What You Believe In

When people ask me what I write about, I always say that I write about what matters to me. That’s an asset. It’s my USP (unique selling point). People that relate to me and have similar interests instantly connect and become frequent readers of my blog.

Make Sure Your Content Is Evergreen

Unless you run a news blog or write about celebrities, your content should be evergreen.

Forget Analytics

When you’re starting out, you shouldn’t worry about analytics.

Network & Collaborate With Other Bloggers

Networking with other bloggers will keep you motivated and eventually result in collaborating opportunities.

Avoid This Blogging Mistake For Better Results

David Oliveira · 27/03/2021 · Leave a Comment

Since I first started blogging at the age of 16, this is the one blogging mistake I made the most.

I am guilty.

Yes!

After repeatedly making the same mistake, I see how bad this is for my blog.

If you’re blogger or trying to become one, please avoid making this mistake.

blogging mistake - consistency

Do you get it?

I will explain a little bit better.

A consistent person continuously behaves in the same way. It’s someone who has routines and uses the same methods to achieve certain results.

Why is consistency a blogging mistake?

Consistency isn’t a blogging mistake.
The lack of it, on the other hand, is a terrible one.

Readers expect you, the blogger, to keep creating content.
They want to come back to your blog and find something new every time.

If you don’t blog consistently, your readers will be disappointed.
Worst, your readers will be disorientated and left, thinking that you quit.

Too dramatic? NO.

Here’s the thing, blogging is like maintaining a romantic relationship, but instead of friends you have readers. Not publishing an article every week, is just like stop taking your friend’s calls. How would you feel if someone you consider a friend stopped taking your calls?

Not good!

That’s what I thought.

Did you notice that I didn’t publish anything during the last few weeks?

Probably not, why would you?

Anyway, I didn’t, but I should have.

If I want this blog to shine, grow and become popular, then I better put get to work and make sure that at least one new article is published every single week.

More Blogging Tips

I have learned so much since my early days of blogging – and made so many mistakes. I wish I knew then what I know now about writing and blogging.

Here’s some of my blogging tips:

Forget Analytics

When I first started blogging I spent so many time checking how many clicks I had on my blog. Forget that and focus on writing.

Believe In What You Write

I remember the day I started with affiliate marketing. I wrote loads of poor and short articles just to get those links on my blog. What a waste of time. Going back to those articles and reading them is the worst thing ever. Hard sales and no educational content.

Do Not Quit

Even though I never quit blogging, I deleted countless blogs to start afresh.

The worst mistake ever.

If you take one thing from this blog post, please remember that deleting a blog completely is the ultimate mistake. If you want to change your niche, that’s fine; you may have to start a new blog, but please, I beg you, do not delete your previews ugly blog. One day, you will want to go back to that blog, but all your precious content will be gone.
